Ofsted Childcare Register - Voluntary Registration Fees

Hi all, following the consultation by DfES, fees for the new Ofsted Childcare Register have been determined for those who fall under voluntary registration.
Fees for voluntary OCR are: £100 for individual carers, and £110 for group providers. CRB fees are additional to this, currently the CRB charge £36 for an Enhanced level check.
If you already care for children aged 5-7 and currently register under Part 10A of the Children Act 1989 - so that covers Registered Childminders in England - you will be transferred to the OCR in September 2008. So no need to panic yet!
The new fees therefore mostly affect nannies during 2007 and those of you may care for children over the age of 8 and who are not currently required to register as a childminder. However, it would be wise for Childminders to be aware of the changes taking place, so that fee levels can be adjusted over a period of time, to take into account the change in annual registration fees.
More details can be found at
OCR Consultation - See summary of results document.

I'm confused, I childmind children of all ages, how does this affect me? Are these prices instead of te annual ofsted fee (£14 I think)? Or is this something different and will it affect me?

As a Registered Childminder you would fall under compulsory registration, and will transfer over in September 2008, so some time off yet. As I said, don't panic! Details of what will happen will no doubt be sent to you by Ofsted nearer the time.

If it helps, last year DfES had a consultation regarding fees.
Childcare Registration Fees consultation - May 2006
The result of that highlighted concerns regarding fees rising and how they would be subsidised. My guess is that fees will rise, but that local authorities will subsidise the cost, based on local need. That is however, just my guess. I expect there will be further consultations regarding fees paid by Childminders, Nurseries and Pre-Schools over the coming year or so.
For now, all that is known is the anticipated fee structure for voluntary registration on the OCR. Even that could change, as the OCR does not start to go live until April.
