We are moving 250 miles away on the 5/1 and i'm not really sure whether I will re build my childminding buisness. Obviously when I move I'll need to notify ofsted.

To my knowledge you can voluntarily suspend your registration. This would then give you time to decide if you wanted to continue or not, though if your renewal date came up, you would need to pay the fees even if not minding - or cancel your registration.

Best to call Ofsted and ask them what options you have... for example, is it better to suspend, or cancel.

Don't cancel your registration unless you are absolutely sure that you won't childmind again!

No thats what I thought theprisoner, if nessecary I'll have the new house homechecked if I can't suspend my registration.

Its not usually necessary to have the new premises checked any more. In the past you weren't allowed to childmind in the new property until Ofsted had checked it for safety. Now, if you got a decent report at your last inspection and the new property is in England then Ofsted are able to accept your judgement that the new property is safe.

AFIK, people who have definately given up childminding don't seem to be able to cancel their registration as such but simply don't renew their registration when the renewal bill arrives.

I thought i'd review the situation next oct when my renewal comes through.

You can cancel your registration by writing to Ofsted (which they will probably file away and forget to action). You can ask the CIS to remove your name from their lists, so it wouldn't be given out to anyone.
