We're looking for a nanny, but so far having no luck. Are there any other websites worth looking at?

Thanks...

I used top notch nannies for a doula , they were quite good.

Thanks Melsy - am registering as we speak!

Back to work in 6 weeks so I'm getting a little paniky, but we just haven't seen the right candidate yet (and frankly candidates have been few and far between in any event)

whats nice is that the Director/owner will chat with you to get what yuor about and then try and match someone to you.

where are you based? My ex-nanny is returning tomorrow from travelling as it happens and I couldn't recommend her highly enough. (ex as I gave up job and she is very very much missed by all)

More to your point, we found her through a personal recommendation from another nanny that we almost went into a share with (share looked iffy, but we loved the nanny so thought her recommendation might be worth following up - it was) but the 'share' nanny we came across via an ad in the park cafe, so my advice is scour those notice boards and follow up every lead - it is time consuming but you are saving a fortune on agency fees also. If nearish to Windsor, try contacting Rachel at Lollipop Childcare I find her helpful, though to date have only done temp nannying via her agency. Not sure if Windsor area would be considered W.Berk though.
What is considered to be West Berk?

How about Greycoat Placements Think they mostly do Housekeepers, Butlers etc but expect they have some nannies on their books.

Have you tried local newspaper (this may also get you on some websites such as JobsThamesValley.co.uk) and local shops such as newsagents, where they accept postcard sized ads. Can be a good way of finding someone very local.

Can I hijack thread - sinclair you're not N London based by any fluke are you. My new nanny (only been with us a month) has to go in for an op on Friday and will be gone for three weeks - would love a personal recommendation rather than trawl thro agencies...But guess will depend where you live/ nanny wants to live. If it's W berks - she's Melsey's, if it's N London she's mine!!

carriemumsnet · 21/11/2006 15:29

whoops, not Melsey, crumpet... must not get names muddled up.....

sinclair · 22/11/2006 17:18

Carrie, yes potentially that would work depending on how accessible you are from W12. I'll CAT you with my details now.

sinclair · 22/11/2006 17:25

Carrie, I emailed you my contact details at 'contactus@mumsnet' - hope that finds you
