How should I do this- giving notice during holiday period?

I've got a new job!

I don't have a start date yet but it should be fairly soon after the dbs comes back.

I currently charge 50% holiday fees and have a 4 week notice period. Parents pay a deposit at the beginning that covers the last 4 weeks fees.

This parent paid 2 weeks deposit, but this will cover the 4 week notice period during the holidays (due to the 50%), minus a few quid.

I was thinking it would be a bit unfair to keep her hanging on during the hols and waiting to give my notice when I get my start date, so I thought I'd do it now so she doesn't have to pay anything else, and waive the extra few quid.

Is this the fairest thing to do or do I need to give back the deposit? If she was leaving me during the hols, I'd still expect to keep the deposit as payment for the 4 weeks.

Hope that's not too confusing.
