There is a new website called emergencychildcare.co.uk(affiliated to NCMA) who gave out leaflets at the National Conference last weekend. The idea is childminders (have to belong to NCMA)nannies and nurseries register with them - took me about 3 minutes!- let them know what spaces you have, and when parents need emergency childcare, they put them in touch by postcode. Rates they pay are £4 to £15 per hour and they need more childminders, so get your names on their list!

Saz73 · 17/11/2006 09:38

I have just registered as well

ayla99 · 17/11/2006 10:03

Great idea, just registered too.

CwmbranChildminder · 17/11/2006 10:14

How does the commission work does anyone know?

blodwen · 17/11/2006 10:30

I think the parent pays a total rate, ncma have their 10%, emergencychildcare have their 10%, and we have 80% remaining. But the price we quote for our hourly rate (between 4 and 15, with the average being 7) is what we get paid. That's how I understand it anyway! I should think it will be very useful for parents if their childminder is off sick or on holiday or something. I think they can give just an hours notice, or up to 3 weeks?

ok ta!
Im having problem with them accepting my NCMA number - its on all my paper work with this number but it doesnt start with a letter like it asks>? Am I doing something wrong cos it keeps coming back and saying im not a member when I am 100%??

blodwen · 17/11/2006 11:02

I think the letters are for if you are a group member (G), individual (I), family (F) - can't remember the other one.

The letter is at the end of my number on my public liability certificate.

ayla99 · 17/11/2006 11:09

thats helpful blodwen - I've previously miscopied my letter I as a number 1.

CwmbranChildminder · 17/11/2006 11:31

OK just retryed - thanks

blodwen · 17/11/2006 11:33

We need to spread the word to all childminding friends... they need plenty! I only have one space for one day a week, but I'm happy to use it as and when necessary!

CwmbranChildminder · 17/11/2006 15:58

Well im still not getting registered.
I even emailed NCMA and they confirmed my number was correct? Why do u think its not working for me? Do u think its because im newly registered?

blodwen · 17/11/2006 16:40

Thought I'd take a look at Emergency Nannies in my area. Shockingly that site says it will charge £16 per hour, £18.50 for evenings and weekends. It makes me look cheap

Can't see how a nanny goes about registering. As it seems to be a partnership between NCMA and Tinies Childcare, expect they source nannies via Tinies Childcare agencies. Anyone know for sure?

kpnuts2006 · 19/11/2006 16:26

yeah ive registered too. thats a great idea. thanks

thanks for that, filled online reg in but also got reg form from CIS this week!

Earthymama · 21/11/2006 12:14

What rate do ask for? Your normal rate or an 'emergency' rate?

blodwen · 21/11/2006 12:54

Whatever you like I suppose. I just went for the average + 50p, ie £7.50 p/h. Lot more than I usually charge, but if it's short notice and a child you don't know, it will prbably be harder work!

OP posts:
StrawberryMoon · 21/11/2006 17:21

i put my normal £3.00 plus the 20% they ask for, but i also stated i charge extra before / after those hours..shit..should have [put more money now shouldt i!

Cwmbranchildminder · 21/11/2006 17:47

how do u change the details that u have already put in? I want to change my hourly rate and also want to change the days i had put down?

StrawberryMoon · 21/11/2006 18:45

ive emailed them?
