dd had an app at speech therapy today, now ive got two mindees and dd, i couldnt have taken them as double buggy dodgy and long walk from car park in town centre(plus unsure of how to turn airbag off in front and who would go in there????) anyway...dp managed to get afternoon off and now.....second mindee's mum has called in sick today, she was actually sick friday night and saw her yesterday and she wasnt her ususal self bless her..not a prob with her being ill, just now i could have taken dd to app, but dp already arranged 1/2 day and its his last one..what do you normally do when you 'need' time off?..i feel like crap if id need to ring mindees and say i cant care for them today..and first mindee has no one else in area to help so....would feel a heel!..but obv ill have docs/dentist/hosp app that ill need to go to in future..

I try and emphasise how impotant it is to let me know in advance when something is going to change......ideally as soon as they know

It doesn't work btw and when it all falls apart they say, well of course you could have.....but if I know in advance it is easier

ok, so dd got signed off from speech therapy today..so wont have to sort out cover for that one agin..but am troubled by letting parents down if something arises(like im sure it will) again like dentist app etc

currently having problems getting dd to orthodontist - we were expecting her brace to be removed in September. I arranged for all the mindies to be collected mid-afternoon and deducted everybody's bills accordingly. then just the day before the appointment, I got a letter advising the appointment had been postponed. So I'd inconvenienced everyone for nothing.

So dh then had to book an afternoon off for the next appointment in november. And they've sent another letter - its now going to be December !

... and I've needed a filling since June. Very kind ladies in the office at the dentist said they would watch mindies in the waiting room but its my understanding I'm not allowed to do that as mindies should be within sight/sound of cm at all times.

its a bit of a nightmre isnt it!..couldnt your dh or a close friend come with you?..let the parents know this will be the case, get acknowledgment in writing from parent(im sure theyll be fine as then they wont need to take time off themselves)..i wouldnt personally think ofsted would need to be informed as long as you have parent consent in writing.

i'm quite lucky in that i work 7am till 9am then 1pm til 6pm mon and fridays so tend to make appointments during these hours

you could try to make appointments when your really quite with children

you can push pram into dentist room with you i wouldnt leave them they are not your children to leave

I try when ever possible to make appointments either when I have the least/best behaved mindees. I too have had to have a filling and as the tooth was hurting me I had to get it done at the earliest opportunity and on that day I had 2 mindees so my mum came with me and she had to come into the dentists surgery (luckily he knows I am a cm and is very accomodating) and she kept an eye on mindees for me (luckily they were fascinated by what was going on and were very well behaved). Last time we all went for a check up (me, dh, dd and ds), I also had 2 x 2 year old mindees and 2 after schoolers in tow and so there were 10 of us in the poor dentists surgery including him and dental nurse , but luckily he sees it as a good thing as mindees tent to be less scared of him and he gives them all balloon too!!
I would not let parents down just for a routine dentist/doctors appointment as long as they are happy for mindees to come with me.
