Hi, I'm new to this site and am thrilled to find so many childminders here!! I was a nanny for many years and registered earlier this year but have been unable to find any other childminders on the net for advice/support etc.

I was just wondering if anyone has a private pension. I read briefly somewhere about a scheme for childminders where the government contributes too.

Any ideas?

You are probably thinking of a stakeholder pension, I have one (& am a childminder), speak to a good independent financial advisor & he/she would be able to sort one out for you.
p.s. there are two yahoo groups for childminders, UK Childminders & UK Registered Childminders

I have a stakeholder pension with Virgin which I got without going through an advisor - I find it quite straightforward and you can either pay in a regular amount or pay in lump sums when you want - they then claim the tax releif off the government (even if you don't pay tax) and this gets added to it. I've opened up one for each of my children too. You have to understand that there may be an element of risk involved, and you may choose to go through an adviser if you're not very financially knowledgeable.
