Quick question - meeting potential childminder for first time

Hi there,

I'm meeting a potential childminder for the first time later. Would it be better to meet her alone or have my son with me on this initial occasion do you think?

I would say take your son. How she interacts with him will be an important factor in your choice.

Definitely take him. If you're going during the day she will most likely have other children there anyway. When we first met our childminder, seeing the relationship she had with the children and how she engaged ours while we were there made up our minds completely.

Take your son with you. When I used to childmind, I always asked in the past for children to come with their parents .

I'd take him too - the first time, we met our CM and her family in the evening, and it was, as others have said, good to see how she and her family were with the baby (basically, the baby was entertained by her teenage daughter while we talked ).

I then went back during a working day with the baby, and saw how things went then - it was highly amusing as one of the other (toddler) mindees was not pleased to see another baby come into the setting and was marking her territory with the CM quite clearly. But it was good to see how the CM dealt with that (offered lots of reassurance to the toddler without letting her dictate how things went).
