Gutted by au pair leaving

Exactly what the title says - I am gutted by her leaving. She has been with us for so long and she got a fabulous job offer in Australia and so she'll be leaving us in a few weeks. I am devastated. I am so used to her it's like she's really a part of my family. Can't even imagine how DCs will take it once we tell them. Wanted to know if anyone has any tips on how to make things better? I am so sad that it makes me cry to think of her leaving after two and a half years! How do I make the transition better? I have so many questions, but the mostly - how do I stop being so sad and how do I tell DCs that she's leaving? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

In the kindest possible way Smile, pull yourself together. It's great that you've had a good experience, and that will still be true even once she's gone. Give yourself a day or two to get used to the idea before you tell the DC. And then just be honest with them. It's natural for them to be sad - tell them that, and tell them that they can email / FaceTime or whatever is most appropriate.

Are you getting a new au pair?
