I am a child minder and need some advice as my parent has written me a note that she wants to stop paying me a retainer in the day to hold a space open as she is having money troubles! i look after her daughter from 7-9 in the morning and 3.30 to 7.30 in the evening and do school runs each day! the reason why she has been paying a little retainer is because i dont have her some school holidays and she is a nurse which means sometimes i have to do odd days for her at a moments notice!!! please advise can she just stop it or do i need notice?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

she can stop thats up to her
but you cannot gua a space for her child in the hols
i know its a drop in wage but at least she is still paying you for the care you are providing

you could now advertise for a hoilday child and get full pay in the hols

dmo, thanks very much! i just was not sure if she had to give me notice before she just dropped the retainer, as i have always done short notice care, which seems to happen all the time because of her job. thanks

Is the child at nursery or school?
