Hi

Going to be putting my prices up in January and I advised all parents that they will be made aware by the end of this month.

So, does anyone have a letter they'd be willing to share to help me word it right. I'm terrible at this sort of thing, really nervous about putting my prices up for some reason!

How about incorporating it into a contract review as suggested by NCMA (i think)!?

Hi

I am putting my prices up to be in line with other local childminders. It will be the first time in 18 months of childminding and I was silly when I started and offered BIG discounts that nobody else round here offers. Just making a loss so trying to make it more fair. Parents still getting a good deal

I would love to do it at contract review but all mindees contracts are up for review at different times so this isn't possible.

Dear parents,
As discussed the current fees will be increasing as from January 2007 to £-.-- per hour/week......
If you have any questions or queries please do feel free to ask me.
Kind regards,
Looneytune

LT why not include what you just said sounded perfectly reasonable to me?

I put my rates up every September and, until this year, had never actually put it in writing because all the parents know (and I redo all the contracts). I put it in writing this year as some of the parents "forgot" so I gave everyone an extra month at the old rate.

I don't think seeing a copy of my letter would help you much as it is in my own inimitable style, and might not be what your parents expect from you (my minding parents have given up with me and go just with the flow now!!)

As you will be moving house soon as well, sounds like a great time to renew all the contracts. May be a good opportunity to think about any other minor changes you want to include, such as changes in hours, what's provided in the price, fees for school runs etc.

Not sure what you want to put in a letter exactly, e-mail me direct if you need to discuss things a bit before I compose something for you.

Putting up prices is always a pain, I find it hard as well. At present I have some clients on old pricing still, need to do something about that come the new year.

At present, have you talked to any of the parents verbally about specifics of price rises, so that you can guage at what price they would continue paying, and what price they won't pay? You don't want to overprice yourself, but neither do you want to price too low, not with the cost of moving.
