My dd is this slow! I wouldn't worry, but think you could probably give him half a tuna sandwich cut up into 4 smaller bits, the tomatoes and cucumber. If he finishes and is still hungry he could always have a bit more!

I would give less & cut up smaller too

I cut each S/W into 8 tiny triangles put them on a plate and give each child 2, then offer the plate when they have finished

5 cherry toms is a lot....my lot only get 2 or 3 cut in half

LoveMyGirls · 06/10/2006 13:47

i will cut it up smaller next time but hes a big eater so i don't want to make him starving, it just takes him ages, he asked for a banana 5 mins after which he ate.

He eats almost as much as my dd1 who is 7, he's not over weight btw.

I give my 3 year old mindee (who was a slow starter with eating) the bread and marge (half a slice) and a small amount of tuna separately which seems to help. I think a sandwich can be quite difficult for some children. Small amounts of lots of things could be better - a bit of cheese, some raisins, little pot of fromage frais, small breadstick etc. Others will eat you out of house and home!

We time my 3 1/2 year old DD. She takes forever to eat. So, we put the timer on 20 minutes, and if she finished before the timmer gets to 0, she gets a cookie. If she doesn't finish then there are no snacks before the next meal.
