idiot husband failed to book annual leave for tomorrow in spite of four month's notice and lots of reminders. It's normally my day off but I'm away teaching on a course. no family locally. nursery are full. Our fab p/t nanny has agreed to have dd2 tomorrow along with the kids from her other job. their mum is someone I know a little bit from nursery. she's happy for the situation tomorrow thankfully. she'll have 3 kids at their house from 830 til 530 then collect my dd1 from after school club and have my two at ours til 630 when dh gets home.

I am paying nanny extra for tomorrow obviously but wondering about how to recompense the other mum - will send some snacks and picnic goodies for lunchtime. would a bottle of wine be ok? never done this before... nanny worked for us for a while then started there too, kids similar ages and they use the car seats and buggy we bought (offered to pay but I said no at the time)

Sending snacks, goodies, bottle of wine, sounds fine. Perhaps pay for whatever outing they go on that day, if they go out anywhere.

You sound as though you would do the same for her if the situation arose.

A genuine thank you is fine I think, send some flowers/chocolates/bottle of wine if you want to. I'm sure you'd so the same. It's one of the benefits of having a nanny and everyone behaving reasonably! It's so nice when that happens.

Can't he take it anyway as emergency care leave?

sleeplessinderbyshire · 24/06/2014 18:17

not without pissing off his boss and a major new client for a million pound odd contract, no

He doesn't need to take it off now, OP has sorted it.
