Ask for ID when they turn up
Have all paperwork up to date and to hand
They like to see how you are with the children
Make sure your certificate is on show and I think they now expect your insurance aswell

I'm sure I'll think of more that came up on mine, just relax and be yourself with the children.

Another one if you have to leave the room take all children with you - even though it's an ofsted inspector they're still a stranger.

If you've not done B23 or Child protection tell them you're going to get on the next possible course.

LoveMyGirls · 07/09/2006 13:58

i did child protection in with my ICP - do i have to do a seperate/ more in depth one as well?

paperwork is fine
certificates are on show

what sort of things did you do with the children while they are there? just wanting ideas on things that be done whilst they are talking to me?

At my inspection the inspector told me I had to do a seperate child protection course but that might just be my area. I know other minders that got inspected under a different council and nothing got mentioned.

I had a book box out and a play road and cars the children played for a bit then I read to them. They wanted to know what sort of toys I have for the children and if there were any I wanted to but/loan

I've always bought/borrowed a new set of something to keep the children entertained for as long as possible before they revert to type (you know the thing, hey ho - new person in the house, let's play up as badly as we can scenario!) It's something like a new construction set, farm, whatever (perhaps something you want to get anyway).
