Getting DBS check for privately employed housekeeper

I am returning to work shortly and have found a lady who is going to be a housekeeper, but she will also be supervising my older children, ages 11 & 13, after school. How do I get a DBS check done on her? Most websites I have seen, seem to suggest that I have to be an 'organisation' to apply for one from an umbrella company. can anyone recommend an umbrella company that could provide a DBS check for me?

This organisation seems to offer it ... by making everyone a member of the The SaferWorkers Association.

This is NOT a recommendation, it is just something I found on Google and I think has been mentioned on here in the past. It does look as though it is a currently possible method for an individual to request a check on themselves.

Is the housekeeper not registered with any recruitment agencies? A recruitment agency can do a check for them.

In both these situations you would not get to see the check certificate unless the housekeeper showed it to you. The housekeeper could register for the update service and then they could allow future employers to check the status of the check online.

We had a new nanny who came in, and this person seemed very nice but things kept going missing. At first I thought it was me being forgetful, and felt horrible to think our new nanny might have taken or misplace my stuff. I didnt want to offend anyone. But this nagging voice was in my head and I needed to know. So we brought the below kit and hid the DVR monitor and left it recording. To my surprise, she did take a few things and even didnt look after my child as she normally does when I was around. She was on the phone all the time. I was horrified and wish I listened to my instincts earlier. Now we use our hidden cameras all the time.

Thanks Nannynick, I will investigate it & let you know how I get on. I advertised for the person I am employing, so they are not registered with an employment agency - I live quite rurally, so agencies don't really cover this area. The lady I am employing has worked in their current role for 18 years, but that does not involve supervising children, hence no crb check. She is happy to have the check done & I explained that the results would be sent to her & she would need to show them to me - she is happy with that. I can't believe there isn't an option for individual employers to get them done!

mimi you do know that's probably illegal right? Secret Monitoring

If you trust them with your House and Child you trust them with your house and child.

Most nanny agencies will perform a DBS check on an individual for a fee.

If you can convince them to give up an hour a week they can get one for free through girlguiding/scouts!
