Male au pairs?

I know this is a gross generalisation...
Our fab (female) au pair will be leaving us soon, so I've just started looking again. Had loads of applications from male (mostly Spanish and Italian) males, all would tick a lot of boxes for us. We have two boys so I'm thinking this might even be a bonus.
Any thoughts?

We have had a male Spanish au-pair since August last year, with our 5 & 7yo boys. Au-pair has generally been great.

We had a male au-pair when I was growing up. I remember him being a lot more fun and easier to get on with than the female au-pairs we had. He was awesome.

I think its like everything, there will be good candidates and bad ones... interview the individual and choose the person who suits the job best regardless of gender.

I always post too soon!

We had a female au-pair before him, who was also great. (We have been quite lucky I think.)

We did have reservations - mainly quite stereotypical sexist prejudice about whether a male au-pair would be OK with the cleaning/housework which is (explicitly) part of the role we offer. But that's all been fine.

He can't cook and isn't interested in learning / picking that up. Of course this could be true of any gender.

He's very caring with the children, deals with dressing, washing, accidents & all the 'personal care' stuff absolutely fine. Cuddly and loving in an entirely appropriate way.

Our boys like that he's quite happy with physical play, 'fighting games' etc. And it's a change from their all-female teachers etc.

I really think it's about the person, and we're looking at both male & female for next year.

We have a male au pair

He's amazing on all fronts - housework, stuff with the kids wtc

He will be a hard act to follow for subsequent au pairs
