Changing Payroll companies - how easy?

For various reasons and thinking of changing payroll companies

They have not sent this year's P60 or last years and have had a few other niggles

Would another company be able to step in and help?

And any recommendations would be appreciated

Thanks

I would suggest calling other payroll providers and asking them what they need to be able to take over.

Have you paid HMRC the amounts owed for 2013/14 tax year? Do you have April's payslip details? If you are up to date on payments to HMRC and have the earnings to date for current tax year, then it may be quite easy to switch provider.

Not sending a P60 is not good, though has it yet been issued? Some may send it with May payslip. Did last year's get lost in the post, sent to wrong address, sent direct to the nanny perhaps?

hi - thanks Nick Smile

am up to date with amounts owed for the last tax year and as far as i knew P60 is issued on 5 April - could be wrong but this is what i thought happened

I don't know about last year's - nanny is adamant she didn't receive and when she mentioned it didn't ring a bell with me either

Has the current provider been able to explain what has caused a problem and offer any solution? Have they tried reprinting the P60 (I think this is possible in most accounts software). They act on your behalf so they should be communicating with you about any problems that occur.

Depending on when they do the payroll run, you may find that May payroll is already in progress, so you may need to wait until that has been completed, then ask them to stop and to provide the details needed to transfer it to another provider. You may have sufficient details from the May payslip, such as Year to Date amounts, Tax Code, Tax Period, Employers PAYE reference (this may not be on the payslip but should be on some record you have).

I don't think I got my P60 until later on. It has to come before 31st May, so there is time yet. Could you verify with the payroll company if it has been sent out and if so can they reprint as it has not been received.
