When to hand in notice?

I have a term time only job that I intend to leave at the end of the school year, when would be the best time to hand in notice? I don't really want to wait until the end of the school year but it seems silly to be handing in notice this early for them to find a new nanny for four months from now. Should I want until mid-June (a month before my job ends)? Or is sooner better than later?

What's your notice terms in your contract? Some may say a month others may say a week.

I would give the contractual notice, probably four weeks, as it is a TTO job and there must already be arrangements in place for the school holiday. Ten or eleven weeks should be plenty to find a new nanny at the moment.

It's a month or two I think, I need to double check that, can't find my bloody contract though but I remember there being no clarification that it's a month in my working terms, or a calendar month, IYSWIM? Mum is a teacher, so she has the child in the holidays.

Thanks though :) I'll dig through my emails and try to find the contract, my paper copy got mislaid which surprises me as it means that I must have taken it out of my massive folder.
