Is it just me or is the only option for a 12 year old not to be home alone for a bit before I get home from work is an au pair. There do not seem to be many options or am I missing something.

I think by 12 you've only got a problem if you work FT and until late.

Most 12y are quite happy to let themselves in. Not all of them are sensible enough to fix themselves tea. DD1, was much more confident with such things. In no small part because she was adult hight.

I'd worry they'd get bored and silly if it was everyday week in week out.

A childminder might do it. Are there after school clubs which could use up some time before going home? Or a late library for homework?

How long would it be for OP?

If it is an hour or so I personally think it is totally fine as long as the 12yo is OK with it.

I guess if they were home 3.30 and you weren't home till 6.30 I might be a bit more concerned...rota of friends? Clubs after school?
