help finding agency for foreigh live in nannies

this is my first baby and thus as green as grass. I would like to go back to work after 16 weeks (I'm dutch and 16 weeks is stautory maternity in the Netherlands) and my husband and I think that a live in nanny is the best solution for us. I have no idea where to start my search and would be very grateful for tips.

So you are in the Netherlands and want a nanny from another country? Any particular country? Will they be able to learn dutch whilst with you, or do you need someone who speaks dutch?

There are agencies in London who do nannies throughout Europe. However maybe there are agencies in the netherlands who could find you a nanny.

Hi, whereabouts in London? Abbeville nannies has a good reputation but they are SW London focused (though they may be able to help anyway since I would guess that live in nannies are more flexible on location).

By the way - nanny agencies charge a fortune (at least the good ones do) so I'd try word of mouth first if you possibly can. If you know any local families, ask them to spread the word, you may find someone is letting their nanny go and would recommend them on to you.

Agencies can charge thousands to do the job you basically can depending on your timeframe. Every good nanny will look EVERY where an agency will post the job advert. They usually consist of greatcare nannyjob childcare.co.uk and findababysitter.com. But this is the small percentage of nannies who will only go through an agency to find a job. As a nanny i can recommend greycoats Eden imperils and kensignton nannies. But depending on exactly where you are if you search your area. There will be smaller agencies that specialist in your area

So do you want a nanny who is not British then? Do you have a preference for nationality?

I wouldn't rely on agencies. You will still need to interview them, check their background and references, sort out employing them with a contract and a payroll etc. By all means register the vacancy for more visibility but I would not trust them to do the whole job.

Do you need a nanny who speaks dutch? Given baby is going to be 16 weeks, probably not important. However it may be more important to you in later years, though raising a bi-lingual child can be done in other ways. I have known some parents decide that one of them will always talk to their children in one language and the other parent will always talk in English.
