How would you feel if your babysitter did this?

I had to go out today on short notice, so called a babysitting agency who supplied a woman from their pool of sitters. I'd never met her before, but felt comfortable as the agency does police checks, etc before they add the person to their books. I've used the agency in the past, and have been pleased.

After I paid the sitter and sent her home, I went to my computer, and can see that she sent 2 emails from my email address! I'm very unhappy that she went into my office, and very unhappy that she used my computer/my email account. I also can't quite believe that she'd be stupid enough not to delete the emails or at least log on to her own account to send messages! I guess she didn't think there was anything wrong with it, or she'd have made an effort to "cover her tracks".

Would you be upset? Would you do anything other than make a mental note never to use her again?

If she was asking to be added to mailing lists was she not adding you're email to them? What mailing lists did she put you on?

fairyfly · 28/07/2006 16:36

What i mean is un;less shes stupid she must have known she was adding you, so is she trying to wind you u or are they useful mailing lists. Or perhaps she gets commision if she gets new members to join.

Unbelievably enough, the email lists she's written to appear to be Christian prayer lists. She did say tome that she recently was made redundant from a Christian Music company, so had re-registered with the sitting agency (evidently she was a regular on their books previously).

Agency didn't seem to have much of a concrete plan other than to "talk to her" about it. No idea if that includes letting her go or reprimanding her in some way. Can't get my money back as I paid the sitter directly - before I knew she'd been in my office on the computer.

perhaps she's trying to spread the word of the lord

It's a bit weird but I guess she probably saw it as just one step beyond making a private phone call from your phone...
Wouldn't get too het up about it, can think of a lot worse things to catch a babysitter doing than emailing a christian prayer list!

even as a daily nanny i would never use my employers pc. The only time i ever went into their office was too put the mail on the desk.

She has no right to go into an area of the house that the children don't have regular/free access to.

Damn I was expecting hard core Russian lesbian porn

Not what would Jesus do

Yes, it definitely could have been much worse than Christian prayer sites! Still, I'm amazed at her nerve. I've made a note of her name, and won't let the agency send her to me again.

Thanks to all for advice/perspective - sometimes when someone is so cheeky/presumptuous, it makes me question whether my own instincts/reactions are reasonable!
