London live in nannies have a higher average salary? Why?

Could someone help me understand why live in nannies in London earn more than other parts of the country. I thought London weighting was usually because accommodation and travel is more expensive but a live in nanny doesn't have to pay for either of those things. Just wondering....

I guess;

  1. Other things are more expensive as well. Eating out, drinking, theatre, travel (don't need to travel to work, but still need to travel elsewhere) etc. etc. etc. General cost of living is higher.
  1. It's a market, live-in nannies will be paid what the market supports. In London there are far more jobs than anywhere else, higher pay to attract the very best candidates.

General living costs in London tend to be higher than the rest of the country, so it's a standard London weighing you'd get with any job. Also, I guess because of London weighing on the salaries of the family they'd be working for, it would be expected they should be able to afford to pay more, which is proportionally the same as would be paid elsewhere

If you have 2 or more children live-in nannies are a very cost effective form of childcare. Don't begrudge what you pay your nanny, the relationship will never be successful if you do.
