So what do you pay an au pair who does around 30-40 hours a week?

I do think that it is important though to ensure that her working hours enable her to follow courses and get certificates if she wish to pursue those.

Sometimes this may be a little inconvenient and means changing your own schedule to enable this, but that is life. Especially in rural areas there may not be that many appropriate courses or they may be late and safe transport may then be an issue. I do think the family needs to be flexible in those circumstances.

One of our au pairs only could do her English course at her level during Thu afternoon. We just needed to jig stuff round to make it work.

It is all about give and take.
