Hi all,
I had an email today about DBS checks and I'm not sure if I've been in my own world or something but I haven't heard of them!
I spoke to a friend in childcare and she said that I should have been having these done every 2 years.
I had a CRB check when I registered 9.5 years ago, but nothing since.
Should I be having DBS checks?

You don't legally have to renew your check so I believe. DBS is the 'new' CRB so to speak and you should be able to complete it quicker than the CRB

Thanks for your reply ileypie...
I hope you don't mind if I bombard you with more questions!
Do you renew your check?
But should I have been renewing it all these years?
I have had 3 Ofsted inspections and its never been mentioned.
Last one was 3.5 years ago though so wondered if it was something new!
Inspection looming and don't want to find out I've completely missed something vital!

Oh plus I wouldn't take me children to a childminder that hadn't had a recent check

Its never been an issue as far as parents are concerned. So not worried about them. Its more an Ofsted worry for me!

They don't renew you just complete a new one, you can do it online now I believe. I stopped working for them a few months back and I was aware of companies doing it online then. I would check online for ofsted recommendations I'm not sure what they say we used to recommend for schools every three years...not sure if it would be different for you.

I had my crb 14 yrs ago. I spoke to Ofsted and they said they are notified of anything which would prevent me minding, so it is effectively up to date today. I do have a more recent paper copy for being a chaperone and another for being a guide leader, but noone has asked for these. I would be upset if my old paperwork meant parents would not use my services, because I have been assured it is an ongoing check as long as I'm registered.

That's what I've always thought HSMMaCM (Thank you)- So panic over... I'm covered!
I tried to google to find out but couldn't really work it out so thought best to ask other CM what they do!
