i really dislike the way that some children lie, just wondering how you deal with it when it becomes a problem?

today for eg i had a 4.5 yr old tell me that the 3yr old had biten him when i asked 3yo why he had done this he look bewildered and denied it so i asked 4yo where he had been biten which is when he confessed that he hadnt been biten at all - why do they do this? (make up silly lies that arent true in the slightest - i can understand elaborating or shifting blame if they have done something wrong) 4yo lies quite a lot about silly things - ius it an attention thing and how should i deal with it (to nip it in the bud) i dealt with it today by telling him it was wrong to try and get the other child into trouble for something he hadnt done and to say sorry to him.

I think most kids lie at this age. I don't like it either, but I believe it's natural and I even read somewhere it's supposed to be a sign of intelligence.

I think it's developmental/experimental ie how they discover that there are things that are true and make believe and also whether you or anyone else is omniscient

Two of my school mindees told their headteacher that I make them work up the chimney and make them clean the toilet. I am expecting a visit from Ofsted very shortly ... Smile

When talking about me to their friends, they say, "that's my evil childminder" (but that bit's not a lie, I guess!!)
