Advice needed on nanny/childminder rates

Hi, I'm looking for some advice please - my nanny/childminder has just said she was going to increase her rates from £5 an hour to £7 an hour. I do get my childcare paid for via tax credits, but I think this increase is a little too much seeing as the going rate is only around £5 an hour. What does everyone else pay?

It depends where you are located. None of my local childminders charge less than £7 per hour.

It is a big increase in on go, it really does depend where you are, are you sure that £5ph is your local rate as this seems high compared to others. I charge £3.75ph but thats normal for my area.

Are you happy with her, what does she offer included in her fee?

Is she a nanny or a childminder?

That would be very low for a nanny. Assuming she is a childminder, it is a big jump, but whether it is justified depends so much on local rates and costs it is hard to judge if it is reasonable. When did she last put up her rates? Do you think she might be trying to "lose" you as a customer?

Childminders in my area are around £5, nannies work out to be £10+.

Sounds quite a high rise but maybe fees have not changed for years and it is becoming unviable to provide the service at current fee.

If you decide to look at other providers, look at total cost over a year. Take into account holiday arrangements, outings, food. Some may have a lower headline hourly rate but then have lots of extras you pay on top, where as others may include a lot in the fee.

thats 40% Shockincrease

maybe she is trying to get rid of you if you are an awkward client Wink

seems weird that she is uping so much if all other cm charge same as her

also depends as nick said if she charges all year round, or not holidays etc so have a compare

in the end your cm is se and sets her rates, if you dont like it then use someone else :)
