We all moan now and then but I thought I'd start a thread about the "Best Bits" like......

Having a new baby fall asleep on you, trusting that you will look after her

Parents that pay early

The child that really does eat anything

Can you add some?

When their parents tell you that whenever they pass your house they want to come to you.

When my longest standing mindee tells me he loves me.

When mindees mums ask you for recipes cos mindees are always saying you make something better than them.

When mindees hide behind the sofa cos they don't want to go home.

When mindees parents ask for your opinion on something and value your answer.

When mums in the playground say 'you do a fantastic job. I couldn't do it, you need a medal'.

When your term-time only mindees want to come in the holidays and their mum has to ring you to have them once a week cos they won't shut up til she does. :) :) :) :)

looneytune · 17/05/2006 19:59

When you pick a mindee up from nursery/pre-school and when you collect them, they run with a big smile and jump up for a cuddle :)

When they say 'i love you xxx' :)

When a new baby has been hard work since they started and then suddenly all is wonderful and the routine etc. seems to be working at last! :)

I'll have a think about more, these just came straight to my head!

Lovely Feelingold :)

When mindee runs to your house because they are so excited.

Being the one they cuddle when the want a cuddle.

Being the one to get the mindee to talk.

Being paid to do a job i love and looking after a wonderful child.

Teaching the children to do thingsand they then show the parents they can do it with so much pride.

puppy · 17/05/2006 22:55

Being able to give them back to their parents at the end of the day Grin

Seriously most have been mentioned I would say but:

when you get a card from them saying your the best childminder in the world

DH says when he gets home from work to a group of children giving him such a warm welcome home

Seeing the mindees having fun with lovely smiles on their faces

When mindees parent goes to pick them up from school and asking why I wasn't picking them up

When parent are happy and grateful for what you do

ThePrisoner · 17/05/2006 23:27

When they say "we love coming to your house because it's such a mess" ... hmmm ... Blush

badgerhead · 18/05/2006 07:55

When an existing mindies mum asks you to have her new baby once she has got pregnant & had It!

Being cuddled & trusted by small children.

'funny' conversations

being able to be home for your own children & still earn a good income.

ayla99 · 18/05/2006 10:33

the child that ate the crusts & left the middle of the sandwich
the child that not only eats all my food but thanks me afterwards & asked for one of my recipes to take to brownies
thank you letters from parents & mindies
when a parent rings you cos you've been recommended
the envelope containing variation approval
lots of paydays
the speed of the journey to/from work

What a lovely thread so nice to see all the positive stuff. I feel so lucky to have a job I love doing and getting paid decent money for it.I'm not saying that I never have bad days, but they really are few and far between.
I really love being part of a huge extended family and getting loads of cards and presents from them all on my birthday, it's so sweet I'm still remembered some of the children I've looked after are now in their 20's Shock

Isyhan · 18/05/2006 10:47

this thread has renewed my enthusiasm cant wait to start

alison222 · 18/05/2006 18:30

most have been mentioned but also
When the children you don't look after any more still invite your children to their parties, and always ask if they are coming to visit when mum drives past the end of the road.

KaySamuels · 08/02/2007 10:15

Saw this when looking through old threads and thought I would bump it to have a positive start to the day.....

My best bit is being able to go with the flow and go have a picnic on the beach, at the park, etc / have a snowball fight/ jump in puddles etc, and get paid to watch the mindees having lots of fun and getting paid for it!

When mindee started at 11 months old she was attending sleep clinic cause would only sleep by being breast fed or walked in her pram (so clearly never slept in our house) and as soon as she was laid down or journey finished she would wake. Had never left her mum before and screamed continuously for first few days.

Two weeks later was putting arms up for me to take her before her mum had even said bye.

Two months later, she is now fast asleep downstairs after just a little cuddle, as is my DS who I have been up with since 1am today!

I have peace and quite for hopefully about 30 mins (although slept for 2 hours on Tuesday) to prepare lunch (and quickly check out MN of course)!

Kinf of missed off my point there didn't I!!!!

Makes me feel like I must be doing something right! Also she never used to eat but now eats a lovely healthy lunch every day and thoroughly enjoys it! Love writing in contact book how much she has progressed!
