My dd is 14 and babysits for three families

one pays £20 for evening usually 7-11.30 weekend, kids in bed

one pays £3.50 /hr kids need stories etc and putting to bed

one pays £1.50/hr kids need feeding /bathing and entertaining

She obviously loves the first one but the second one is more common I think.

I would give £7-8

In SE but not London - we pay our babysitter (coming up 16 and doing childcare GCSE etc) £3 an hour.

aintmebabe · 07/05/2006 20:55

We pay £4 an hour in London.

naswm · 07/05/2006 20:57

Thanks for that. Chezbabe - why do you suggest paying more than the sitters rate? out of interest.

I used to use the girl who lived over the road from me. My children were 12 (still up) and still up when I got home, (8 and in bed asleep) and 3 (definitely in bed and asleep). Normal baby sitting time was from about 8.30 to just gone 11. The going rate was £10 to £15 but I always paid £15 - £20, especially if I was 5-10 minutes later than what I said I would be. My boyfriend would always see her across the road (literally). Although she was 18 I still felt responsible until she was inside her front door.

Hi!
I have just turned 18 a few months ago,
I have been babysitting for several people for well over a year now and charge £5 and hour for any amount, whether kids are in bed or not.
I am police checked and am doing NVQ in childcare.
At first a was worried at charging too much but no-one has ever had problems with paying it!.
