My OH and I have to do some evening training put on by our council (to do with childminding). We are both childminders. We have 3 children. Can we put the babysitter's fee through our accounts? We cannot do the training separately ...

No. You can put the travel costs through though (bus fare/mileage at 45p per mile plus 5p per mile for your OH)

So when we go together (in the same car) we can claim 50p/mile?

Since 6 April 2011, yes (up to 10,000 miles a year) - the travel has to be exclusively for a business purpose, which means that the training must be exclusively for a business purpose i.e. updating existing knowledge (e.g. Changes in EYFS 2012) not learning something new (e.g. Setting up a Nursery).
