How much would you pay a 16yo babysitter for approx 3hrs sitting...?

As the title says really. We're about to start using our neighbour's 16yo DD to babysit our 2 DDs (5 & 2yo) maybe a couple of times a month but I've absolutely no idea what the going rate would be for this .

It would probably be for about 3hrs between 7pm & 10pm. We'd probably get the girls ready for bed before we go out but the sitter would have to put them to bed (around 7.30pm) & then just basically be there incase they wake up.

How much would you expect to pay for this...?

It might depend where you are, but I tout my 17 yr old DSD at about £5 an hour, plus sweets and snacks.

A tenner. She's 16, she can do her homework/chat on fb/catch up with friends whilst sitting comfortably in your house! Let's be honest, she won't have to do that much!

If she won't do it, I'd do it for a tenner a couple of times a month!!!

I pay my 18 year old student babysitter £6 per hour when I need cover during school holidays.It's during the day though so she is doing activities with them.

£5 an hour for teenagers round here. I would get it absolutely clear before hand. Ask her how much she wants, or tell her what you're offering and check that this amount it OK.

£5 per hour, and I would put the kids the bed first, especially the 2 year old. As if they play up at bedtime babysitter might not be so keen to keep returning!

Crikey I used to get £5 an hour when I was a teen when dinosaurs rulled the earth quite a few years ago now.

If I was paying a babysitter for three hours I would prob give closer to £20.

My DD babysits for my DSis and she gives her £30! (but perhaps that's because she is also a lovely auntie spoiling her niece.)

I don't do hourly rate for my babysitter - more like £25 for a not so late night - e.g 8pm until half eleven. Then about £40 for a really late one - e.g 1.30am. It is easy work, but a big responsibility and I want to make it worth her while so she will choose sitting round mine rather than going out with her mates! Oh and we provide snacks too. We are north east.

DD gets £20 for that time - south east.

When I used to babysit as a teen, I also got a lift home.

10 or 15. depends on how easy the kids are to put to bed. DS is very easy child,so for a 7-10 I'd offer 10 quid, for a later night I offer 15.

£5 seems a bit high to me. Not saying pay rubbish money as obv if somethibg happens while you are out they need to be capable of dealing with it - ie tearful sick child - but min wage for over 21 £6.19 and 16 £3.98

For a teenager to basically sit on the sofa and watch tv for £5 seems a lot

I would have said £10 for the evening if the possibility of changing nappies wasn't involved, and 2 children to watch rather than 1, especially one under 5.

I give my baby sitter £20 for the evening, but she is 20 and I have up to four kids that need watching, one with asd.

The exchange rate works out at about 5.50 an hour for 18yo. I pay this for day or evening work. For one 18mo. The hours soon add up and I think this is a good wage to what's available locally. I figure it's worth paying well at night even though she does nothing so I can call her up as and when it suits me. My english neighbour is a bit when I told her: she thinks it should be 4 quid an hour.

I would pay £12-£15 I think, plus snacks. I pay £20 to an adult babysitter for those hours.

DD(nearly 16) gets £3.50 per hour for Saturday job- she would be thrilled with the same for baby sitting (much less hard work than washing up and mopping!)

My 16 year old gets ?6 and hour and ?10 an hour after midnight. She was offered this and was delighted to accept.
She takes the job very seriously and always tidies up etc. She knows how lucky she is.
