Im a CM and Im funding my own SVQ3 at £100 a month. I have a degree and so am used to studying, all the other students in my class are nursery workers and are getting help or full funding through their jobs. OK its not rocket science, but for my money I get one 2 hour class a month and my assignments marked. The classes are mainly to set assignments. I'm supposed to get a home visit once a month to gather evidence for my portfolio, but I've only had 3 since January when I started. There was no teaching over the summer. As its all evidence based getting a bit peed off, nursery workers can get a collegue to witness testify, but as a CM I am a lone worker and find it hard to provide evidence. My assessor is lovely though but I feel I need more help cross referencing all my stuff, but because ive got a degree she seems to just let me get on with it because she says I know what I'm doing. Should I ask for more help?

If you feel you need more help then yes, ask for if.

I had to pay to do my NVQ3 - around £1,000 and that was 15yrs ago. Once i had qualified I asked the Nursery Manager for a pay rise. She gave me an extra 1p ph!! Not only that, she replied 'I can't just give one employee a pay rise' - hence relatives/family friends who were also employees got 50p ph rise!

I left 2 months after. Never looked back.

My advice as a fellow CM would be to ask the Assessor for more guidance. They should balance support through the class - of course you need the same help as the others.

It will all be worth it in the end. (1p ph pay rise? Cheeky Bitch!)

DH hardly got any support, because he was managing on his own. The 17yr olds got all the tutor time. If you need more then ask.
