Nanny, on mat leave. I cut my hours down before I left to have my baby. Was working a 52 hour week, then went down to 40.

What are my rights in terms of returning hours, terms and conditions. What do they have to offer me legally? I've already been caught out with these employers before, because I didn't look in to things properly, and they probably just thought I was a bit dim Hmm

Are you wanting to return with your baby? Your employers are under no obligation to accept this - but my understanding is they (employer) have to offer the SAME contracted terms and conditions prior to you going on maternity leave (as with any other job), so check your contract before your work meeting.

If they won't allow the baby to come with you but are happy to cut your hours then you will need a change in contract (as you would with other jobs). They are also under no obligation to cut your hours.

If they are happy for your baby to come to work with you then I would advise a change in contract. I returned to work with DS after maternity leave and took a 25% pay cut.

I would strongly advise that you check the ACAS website for returning to work after Mat leave.

Haha....sore point Pickle. That is what was proposed by them all the way through my pregnancy. Baby arrives and suddenly this is retracted Angry Hmm. I was told this when baby was just 3 weeks old. Really not what I needed at that time. But I expect nothing less from them now. Compassion and thought for others doesn't seem to be their strong point Hmm

I've been on the ACAS site now, and I think I roughly know where I stand. Do I have to agree there and then to any proposals tomorrow??
