Just a quick question.

Am a childminder and have just found out i am pregnant. what do other cms do about maternity appointments with midwife or scans?

I was a nanny when I was pregnant and used to take one or both of my charges to appointments. Their Mum was happy for me to do this and it meant that she didn't need to take time off.

I had both girls with me for my first scan which they were both quite excited about!

Hmm. wondering if some bribery would work..my dd and the mindee i have are both impossible to keep still and quiet.

Not sure what to do!!

Hi, congratulations!
I am a cm @35 weeks and took my mindees with me (with parental permission). Midwife appointments were either at my house or at a nearby play centre once a month and only 2 scans so not too bad to work around. My colleague (also pregnant) had all her midwife appointments in the evening and her scans on a Saturday ... it may be worth asking if yours can do the same.

Congratulations!

I'm in similar position (14 weeks now) and have been told it's okay to take both children to midwife appointments but not to the ultrasound scans.

The mum I work with isn't happy to take time off work so, for the 12 week scan, I asked my mother-in-law to come along and she minded the children in the waiting room (she knows them very well and is excellent with them). I know this is less than ideal, but I was less than 5 metres away with the door half-open.

I'm (hopefully) going to have this question soon so am watching with interest. Other CMs around here have said they leave their mindees with their partner for half an hour or so (with parental permission).

Thanks for the responses..

I told mindees mum about my pregnancy as i wanted to see how she would react, she seemed ok and has since discussed pre school for her ds with my dd next year which will actually do me a favour with a baby to feed etc.

Also agreed i would take him to midwife appointments but scans i would take as leave or something.

The next worry is keeping 2 toddlers quiet so the midwife can talk to me properly.

She also asked me to be in charge of finding someone to cover my time off after having the baby. I know a few cms in the area and have one in mind who i know will give him back to me.

All very exciting. am still a bit concerned that i could lose mindee and it would leave us right in the proverbial financially but as Dh says what will be will be

I am 16 weeks pregnant. Initially I would leave my registered assistant with the children (with parents permission) when I had my 12 week scan/midwife appointments etc. But I found out at 12 week appointment that I am having twins so I need extra scans & consultant appointments and now physio for SPD. I give parents notice and I book the day off. I need to concentrate on what the consultant is saying and need time for me and my babies. I am also going on maternity leave earlier than planned. Roll on August!

SkinnyMarinkADink · 18/05/2012 22:17

Twins???

Will they be your first children?
