Childminder with too many children

I am a nanny and know about all standards ect regarding children. My friend at the moment is using a childminder (I am also in contact with the childminder) and I dont know whether to report her to CSSIW (wales) as the childminder has more than 3 children under 3 during the day (sometimes 3 babies and and 2 two year olds), she isn't very hygienic and never seems to spend time with the children, just sits them in front of the tv. She knows when she has inspections coming up so then takes some of the children to her friends house.
I know what she is doing is wrong and all the children in her care are at risk, but if i do report her will she be closed down? or just given a warning? will I have to give my details or can the report stay anon?
Thanks

Hell yes, report her!! The ratios are there for a reason - to protect children from potentially be neglected or having accidents in the care of an over stretched childcarer. And she is MASSIVELY overstretched. I highly doubt she has permission for that many extras. As for what would happen if you report her, I'm afraid I don't know. I think you should be more concerned with what could happen if you DON'T report her - could you live with yourself if one of those children has an accident in her care and you know you could possibly have prevented it?

Yep, what LDL said. that situation is a horrendous accident waiting to happen.

You could do her a favour and give her a warning yourself (anonymously if you feel you have to) - e.g. "The maximum child ratio rules for child minders are there for the protection of the children. The children in your care are not safe because you are over-stretched. Please give some of your families notice to find other childcare arrangements immediately. If you are still taking too many childen by [date] I will feel that I have no choice but to involve the authorities, for the protection of the children.

Absolutely report her. Childminders like that give the rest of us a bad name.

Check her conditions of registration first (you can look on the OFSTED website) and make sure you have all the facts (for example that she isn't working with an assistant or a fellow childminder), but yes I'd agree 100% report her if she is endangering those children.

Before you report her check her ratios. She may have permission to have more. I had up to 5 under 5s at times ... all cleared with Ofsted. Some of those children may be her own or she may have an assistant or another childminder working with her.

I believe the rules are changing and the under 5s ratio will no longer stand...though you have to change your statement of purpose first, removing the ratio breakdown. I don't fully understand the new rule so it might be worth checking out first.

Where I live, there are a group of CMs who regularly hang out together so that if one is over their numbers the extras get absorbed into another CM's available spaces.

They're quite a closed clique so I'm not 100% sure if what they do is breaking any CSSIW rules.
