It has been proposed that the registration of individual childminders by Ofsted should be altered to them being registered by Networks or other approved agencies. Within these changes we would lose our gradings as the overall agency/network would be inspected but not childminders individually. There is further information on the NCMA website at present in the members only area Shock. There is a survey via surveymonkey, but as I have already completed it, the link to it won't work!
Anyway please find out about these changes, as it could potentially cost us a lot more money and lose us business with parents possibly not being able to claim tax credits or pay by vouchers!

Yes I am concerned about these proposed changes too. Have already completed the survey - and hope that the Government does take notice.

There is also a campaign pack in the members section for childminders to write to their MP, local councillors etc. I do feel it is a backwards step for childminders to be taken out of Ofsted's remit. I believe it has helped to raise our status and put us on more of a level playing field with other childcare providers.

However, I am also worried that the decision has already been taken. I hope this is not the case.

Fill it in here. Future of Childminding Survey

Scary to think all the work that has been done over the past years could go to waste.

untitled · 28/04/2012 13:20

RosieGirl I followed your link. I get the message that I've already completed the survey, but I haven't (never heard about it until today), wonder if it's a plot to reduce the number of respondents?

Riddo · 28/04/2012 13:32

Have filled it in.

I like to think that i am good at my job and expect that to recognised on an individual basis.

mum2akebk · 28/04/2012 14:13

Hi untitled, I could be wrong but think maybe RosieGirl used a link which was sent in an e-mail to NCMA members to complete the survey. Unfortunately, I think you have to be a member of the NCMA to complete the survey - if you are an NCMA member, then when in the members section if you go to 'My Voice' and then click on 'Regulation Campaign' - the survey and Individual Inspection Matters campaign brief are there. Hope this helps.

This should work - the person I got the link from says you don't need to be an NCMA member to complete it.

Flisspaps · 28/04/2012 14:46

Oh knackers. It won't work as I've already done the survey, albeit from a different link.

greenbananas · 28/04/2012 14:56

Flisspaps your link does work Smile

Is it too late to do anything about it? If it is this consultation it closed earlier this month.

NCMA responded to the consultation - you can read their response here (doc)

registration of individual childminders by Ofsted should be altered to them being registered by Networks or other approved agencies.

I can't find where it says that in the consultation document. I have only skimmed through the document so I may have missed it, but a keyword search on Network finds no matches. Which section of the consultation document mentions this... or is it in a different consultation document?

Flisspaps · 28/04/2012 20:10

nannynick NCMA only emailed the survey out yesterday so this is still ongoing. It's in the members area of the site, or I can forward the email to you if you like?

squinker45 · 28/04/2012 21:50

I got to a question about criteria changing for being able to accept 3 and 4 funding, does anyone know what it's changing to?

MrAnchovy · 29/04/2012 00:59

This isn't statutory consultation by Ofsted Nick, this is NCMA canvassing its members opinions so that it can better represent them (!)
