CM bank holidays, paid leave etc

Can I ask what you CMs do with regard to your holidays and bank holidays; do your clients pay you? DH was surprised that our new CM asks for 2 weeks paid leave + BHs. I am worried that our expectations of what is standard were a bit out!

Be really grateful to know what you all do. TIA

I'm in the minority but I don't charge for bank holidays or my holidays at all. I ask for half when they go on holiday. Charge for sick days if they are poorly but not me.

My CM charged when she was available for work, so didn't pay when she was on holiday but if we took holidays then we still had to pay full fees.

I charge nothing for my holidays, sickness and bank hold (as I don't work them) if someone was desperate on a bank holiday i'd charge double. I charge full for their hold, there's no right or wrong every cm makes their own rules/contracts.

I charge for all bank hols and school inset days, i charge half fees for my 28 days hol per year too

Been cm for 9 yrs and always done this Smile

My mam is a CM. She charges parents when they have holidays (to keep their place open basically) however she does not charge for BHs or for when she is off (parents usually take the same hols as her as she gives them out at the start of the year pretty much, therefore they dont actually pay, as they are all off if that makes sense).

Another, local, CM charges what your CM is asking for and she wonders why she always has places to fill.

I charge half when they are not with me (they are on holiday/sick etc) don't charge if I am on holiday or sick.

I take a minimum of 4 weeks a year unpaid holidays.

Works well for me but everyone is different.

The key is to make sure everything is explained before the contract is singed Smile

We've used a few CM's and they all differ.

One we paid nothing if she was on holiday and full if we were. Nothing if she was sick but full fees if dc were.

Another we paid 1/2 if she was on holidays and 1/2 if we were. Nothing if she was sick and full if dc were.

We use a CM on weds, thurs and friday so don't have many to consider but again the policy has varied from CM to CM.

Basically CM's are self employed and can set their own terms and conditions. IME if you find one that you and you dc like then you just have to agree to their t&c's.

I do not charge if I am not available. I don't charge BH but charge extra if I work (one parent requires BH !!). I book 4weeks per year unpaid but parents pay if they are away.

My childminder charges in full for 52 weeks a year and has 4 weeks paid holidays, plus bank holidays... BUT she charges a lower hourly rate, so the cost of a year's childcare is the same. You have to look at the whole package. This arrangement suits her as she gets stability of income, and suits us as we have set up a standing order and don't have to think about it any more.

She doesn't charge for sick days, but we did pay her got the one she had in the last 2.5 years.

Oh good, feeling better! She is expensive too but I really like her and obviously much more concerned about care of my child than fees, but dont want to be 'had'.

Not unusual to be charged that, some would charge that and 4+ weeks for their holiday.

I charge for when I'm available so nothing for BH as I'm not available (if really needed someone, I'd charge double). I give my holiday dates by January (this years were given to parents in Oct last year) and don't charge for those dates. I refund for any sickness closures but if the child is sick/on holiday, they pay full rate.

Although I work my fees out a bit different, I work out yearly cost deduct bank holidays and my holidays then charge a set fee each week / month.

If you are full time and can take holiday when the CM does it doesn't make a lot of difference overall, but if a CM charges for bank holidays it can be unfair on part-timers that need care on a Monday, and if they charge for other holidays it can be unfair on parents who cannot take their own holiday at the same time.

I charge for all BH and 4 weeks half fee for my holidays. I also close for one week at Xmas (inc BH) and charge full fee for this
