Our home and contents insurerers dont want to cover us now I have become a registered childminder, so, can I ask - who do you use? Obviously we are looking for the cheapest provider we can find.

Many insurance companies will cover childminders though some impose odd conditions or restrict numbers. There are two insurance brokers who specialise in finding childminder insurance - Morton Michel and Bluefin (previously known as Layton Blackham) and both are worth a call. Both also offer 'extras' in addition to the actual insurance

I have to say I never really understood why we suddenly become black listed for home insurance when we become childminders - to my mind we are less of a risk than most people as we are in and out of the home all day and not leaving properties empty for long periods of time during the day so less likely to be burgled and childminding is frankly no different than having a bunch of your own kids around the house - you never see insurance companies asking for how many of your own children you possess!
