How easy is it to get a live out au pair?

That really.

I really need an au pair but don't have an extra room. I have a ds 8 and dd 3, and they both have separate rooms, a live in au pair would mean I have to move them both to the same room which I don't want to do.

So does anyone know if I can get an au pair that can work from after school till say 7 or 8? Or what other kind of child care should I be looking for?

Thank you

APs don't get paid a lot because the main part of it is their room and board. Are you willing/able to pay someone enough to pay their rent, food and bills and have money to live on?

If you don't have the space for an AP and you need those hours then you really need a part time nanny as it would be difficult, although I'm sure not impossible, to find a child minder willing to work that late every night.

A live out au pair is a nanny or mother's help. You need to pay them at least minimum wage for their age but as the PP pointed out its unlikely you'll find someone willing or able to live on that kind of pay.

What about a nanny with their own child? They will often take a slight paycut for bring their own child and may not want to work FT.

I'd also ask around local CMs, although picking up your 3yo from a CM that late every night will be tough so I think you're right to look for in home childcare.

You need a nanny then as obviously he/she needs to be paid enough to pay bills etc.

Thanks. I thought it might be quite difficult. I had a baby sitter that used to bring her son over and so she charged reasonably. But she's moved now. She might have been able to do it more regularly. But I guess that sort of arrangement would be the best.

I'll keep asking around though.
