Settling in a 3 year old!

I think I have my first customer Smile. Had a brief meeting with the mum yesterday and she's coming tomorrow to do contracts/paperwork and leave him for a settling in session of around an hour. He'll then start with me properly next week. So does anyone have any tips?! His mum says he loves to paint so I'll make sure I have the paints out for him but other than that, should I plan anything or just let him lead the way?

Plan for tears and cuddles, even if he's used to childcare. Kitchen implements and stuff he wouldn't normally be allowed to play with are often enough of an attraction to soothe for a short visit. Also I wouldn't do the full hour alone. Half an hour with mum there and half an hour without is plenty for a first session, then another session on Thursday and a long one on Friday.

Ok, I'll crack out the knives and kitchen matches. I joke, I joke!!

Thanks Octavia!

You should be ok with paints. If that doesn't work, a game in the garden might be good. If mum's ok with it, you could have a snack on standby.
