Married with two children and work full time and had to use creche in the early years. Day off today and heard mums complain that grandparents weren't helping enough with childcare!!! I see so many grandparents on school runs (free childcare). Never had the luxury of living close to parents or inlaws, don't think they would have done it anyway! Do grandparents these feel obliged to help with childcare?

I feel sorry for Grandparents who get lumbered with childcare, they've doe their bit, and looking forward to retirement and then suddenly have to run after 2 year olds again.

As a childminder I share care with several grandparents and they are all exhausted and find it a huge tie and commitment but won't admit it it to their adult children. Instead, they moan to me all the time about it!

The GP's feel guilty if they say anything as they know it is saving their children money, but at a price to the grandparent.

I ever asked my parents, MIL was to doolally and knew it, to accept responsibility. I rarely used my parents as baby sitters either, as they both still worked in high profile jobs.

BUT, my parent did always take my two away for a week in the caravan as all of them loved it!

I am a CM and I have met several GPs at toddler groups and although most are more than happy to do it, they do often say it is a tie (restricts when they can go on holiday, meet friends, etc) and very tiring.

One GP asked her daughter if her grandchild could come to me 1 day a week and the GP was going to pay for it, but her daughter refused to sign the contract and said she wanted her Mum to do the childcare!
