Is this the Homebased Childcare course for childminders?

I'm the same as you and have until the end of the month to complete it and I've just not been able to get in to it. I've got myself a big white board and brainstormed all the tasks and intend to work through them all in rough draft and then write up the final drafts. I've nearly completed tasks 1 and 2 and have started on task 3 today.
Which tasks have you done? It's supposed to take 40 hours worth of work...... :-/

MaryPoppinsMagic · 03/01/2012 15:15

Yep thats the one, it is making me cross. I have so much other stuff to do (Self assessment) and all this just seems irrelvant.

I have done tasks 1, 2 and 3 so far, i have just started task 5 as 4 seemed to daunting to me.

It is giving me a headache!

task 4 - I read somewhere (I think it was Childminding forum) that someone used a template online (via a bank I think) and submitted that with some extra detail thrown in. I've not looked yet but I think they do the financial planning side of it with cash forecast and budgets. This should cover the 'estimate your potential income versus weekly and annual expenditure' Also have a look at Business Link.gov.uk as they have a template on there. I wasn't sure if you could use a template but after reading that post I may give it a go ;-)
How much are you writing? I'm not sure how much detail to go into as most of the task seem straight forward and don't want to (and CAN'T) spend too much time with unnescesary work! Also it's not easy with 2 girls running round today! Grin

MaryPoppinsMagic · 03/01/2012 15:33

ooo really! I may have to look at that, it won't take long as i am not earning much!

urm, i am not writing much; alot of it (especially 5) is repetitive i seem to be writing the same thing twice, task 5.a and task 5.c are pretty much the same question with the answer being risk assessment!

my dd is running wild today as well, i am back working tomorrow so will not get to do more till the weekend. I am hoping i can get it in by next thursday, i have heard they don't like to give extra time on deadlines!

i have been naughty and googled some of the tasks but not alot comes up really! Have you dont all your policies & procedures yet?

OP posts:
my2princesses · 03/01/2012 15:47

Google is useless, I've been doing that for 4 months!!! It would be really helpful if they gave you a sample task answer just so you know you're on the right track but I suppose too many people would just copy it :-(
I also think it's ridiculous that you can be registered and then complete the course. It should be completed before you register as you don't get time after! I registered in October and am pertrified that they will take away my registration if I don't complete/fail the course.

I've got about 13 policies done but you only need a few to register (complaints, safeguarding, equality and inclusion I think the Ofsted inpector told me).
Are you pre reg or reg already?

MaryPoppinsMagic · 03/01/2012 15:51

I have been registered since September, it has all been so back to front total nightmare, i did all the courses after being reg!

I did find the assessment booklet online from the NCMA website as the one the course leader gave us has loads of information missing off it, the one i found on NCMA actually gives information, i could PM or email it to you if you want.

I did get told that this course is a requirement to attend but they won't do anything if you do not complete the tasks. how true that is i am not sure

my2princesses · 03/01/2012 15:58

this area doesn't do anything 'personally', it's all online. There's no course or briefing to attend before you start so it's all back to front here too! I'm in Hertfordshire, where are you?
The assesment booklet would be great please Grin thanks! I'm roping in a childminder friend to help next week too so I hope to get the majority of the work done so I can get her to read through it.

I'm not going to risk not completing the course but I don't know if it'spossible to fail, I think they just send it back with amendments to be made (fingers crossed anyway!)

MaryPoppinsMagic · 03/01/2012 16:24

I am in peterborough, i had to attend a 7 week evening course 6.45 - 9.15pm which was hell every thursday when the kids didn't go home untill 6.15 i would scoff something quick then run, plus getting home at 9.40 to be up at 6am!

I have a lot of resent me, especially as i didn't even 'learn' anything there.

PM me your email address and i will send it over, i have just finished section c of assessment 5, i will have to do a glossary thingy for references as ive stolen some pics off the toy association site.

I also have a few CM friends but they have all been doing it years so have no idea what i am talking about Grin

I'm pre registration but i have completed the course. You cannot fail it if its submitted on time. They will just get back to you and ask you to add in the bits you have'nt done enough work on. Have you got the word count guidelines for each task? If you need any help pm me and i will help as much as i can. GOOD LUCK :)

minderandmum · 03/01/2012 16:39

Hi I'm doing the same course and alot on my opitional units is repetative and I have produced the evidence/work on a previous question we can cross reference back to it.

my2princesses · 03/01/2012 16:52

word count guidelines???? Oh my, didn't realise there were any!

Good to know you can cross reference as a lot does seem repetative but was just going to cut and paste info that I needed!
Thanks guys x

tinypenguinsmummy · 03/01/2012 17:09

I was worried that i was either writing too much or too little and i was sent the word count. It really helped me get to grips with how much needed doing shall i try and pm them to you :)

MaryPoppinsMagic · 03/01/2012 21:04

my2 the word count guidelines are on that sheet I emailed you, most of the assignments are 200-250 no less however I was told my the advisor if you do more its ok.

Firny · 07/02/2012 21:39

I know Im a bit late to this thread, but I have just started the CYPOP5 course and am having problems getting going with task 1. Fed up with it already! My main problem is I dont know how much to write!

Could someone advise me as to how many words I need to write for each task?

Ta :)

MaryPoppinsMagic · 08/02/2012 19:28

Hi firny

Did you get a task guidance sheet? That has the word counts on. If not I can email you it

OP posts:
my2princesses · 08/02/2012 19:41

MaryPoppins - have you completed yours yet? 12th is deadline isn't it?
Firny - You sound like so many people on here! I completed mine last month and am just waiting for it to be assessed (I'm waiting for them to send it back and tell me it's all wrong really :-( ) but once you get going and get writing it does become much easier. From what I've heard and read as long as you cover all the task criteria then you've written enough.
Good luck though x
