If you are given a day off, should you get paid?!

Am a nanny, have been given 3 days off this month....2 days that I was more then happy to work (as its a day I do work!)

Apparently I'm not getting paid for these days as "it was a nice day off plus I've worked a bit of overtime this month so its fine"

Hmm

no way!

If I am available to work and the family choose not to have me work, they still pay.

What does your contract say about unpaid holidays?

MogandMe · 28/10/2011 09:31

Paid all the way - I would be seriously annoyed if my boss did that to me.

My boss usually goes over her 2 weeks of holiday choice and in fact I will have had 7 weeks off from Sept-Dec and thats without me taking any days as holiday.

I am available to work and therefore should get paid.

RE owing hours - I don't do this and neither does my boss however a nanny friend does and it seems a bit Hmm especially when she owes them hours because they come home from work early!!

Nannies are usually paid an annual salary. So an employer giving days off in addition to annual leave should make no difference to pay.

What does your contract say about salary and holiday entitlement?

KatieMortician · 28/10/2011 10:18

You are contracted to work. If they don't need you they still pay you because that's your contract.

Does your contract say that overtime will be allocated as time off?

Otherwise I would think you should be paid. Check the wording of your contract.

I f you are available to work your employer should pay you .I am paid for nearly every day all year.My boss gave me the week off this week ,I work three days for this family and I offered to work today in exchange for one of the days off but if I had not been able to[Working at my other job]I would have been paid for those three days.
