Adding Nanny to car insurance?

hi there, I wonder if someone could give me some advice.

We have a new nanny starting next week; she's mature and has a 10+ year plus clean driving licence.

I've just phoned our car insurer to get the nanny added to the policy, and they don't cover nannies at all, full stop. Something to do with your employee driving the car.

I'm going to have to cancel the policy and look around.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I guess I must have been a bit naive because I simply expected it to be a straight forward process - does anyone have any experience of problems?

I've never heard of that being a problem. Can you ask to speak to a supervisor? It usually is pretty straightforward.

Thank you fraktious.
I'm just on hold to a supervisor. She thinks the nanny driving the car means it's classed as Business use, hence the problem.

Could you upgrade your policy to include business cover?

Otherwise speak to Morton Michel - they're a specialist insurer so are set up for this kind of situation.

Thanks for the advice Fraktious - I did called Morton Michel and they were great - good quote, am going to go with them.
My own insurers quote was astronomical.

Thanks.

We've never had a problem with any insurer adding a nanny (apart from the cost due to age/inexperience). Who was the original insurer? No reason not to name and shame them here, may help influence their policy.

hi there - I'll have to dig it out - the policy was via Kwik Fit Insurance, but they're the broker - apparently no one on their panel would insure nannies as additions.
When I queried, they came back to me that they would, but it would (literally) double the insurance premium.
