When would you start looking for a nanny?

How far in advance would you start to look for a nanny if you were pregnant and planned on getting a nanny? Im just thinking for in the future really. I am a nanny my charges dont go to school until sept 2012 and we may possibly look for a nanny share of some sort.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Three months or so. But then most people don't want nannies immediately do they, they want them once they go back to work. But I know most of the nannies I interviewed needed to give at least two months notice.

I've known parents to look 6 months in advance of proposed start date.

I looked preliminarily 6 weeks before I was due - April baby, Sept return to work however at 3 weeks old DS bolloxed my preferred childcare solution by having bad silent reflux so I need someone more experienced and able to cope!

So be wary of organising something very far in advance as circumstances may change.

I'm currently on maternity leave and plan to advertise for a nanny 3 months before I go back to work. A couple of my friends think I should start earlier but i'm quite comfortable with that timeline.

I've just seen an ad from someone looking for childcare to start March 2013. Now that's forward planning Grin

Seriously, nannynick ? talk about being super-organised/scary.

there was another thread on MN a couple of weeks ago - someone asking about private secondary schools and she was only 6 months pregnant. :o

I do wonder if they made a mistake with the year... but even March 2012 is a way off yet!

Now private secondaries I can understand if you need to save up. O asked about boarding fees a few months back and nearly passed out when I did the maths for boarding 13-18 plus uni. Hoping it won't be necessary!!!
