I'm a cm, about 4 weeks I took on 2 new children (siblings boy and girl) for 2 days, thursday and friday. These 2 new children are fantastics and settled on the first day ! Only problem, my ds are really resentful of me working on fridays as it was my day off and our time together. I'm trying to arrange another day off at another time but it is not easy. What should I do ? What should I say to the ds ?

How old are your DSs?

Explain to them that you need to work. It's going to take time for them to get used to you working on a Friday.

ah the eternal prob of balancing work and family Sad

how old are your children? are you able to explain that the children come because you get paid to have them, and all those lovely extras that you can buy are from your earnings?

if they are very young then they will get used to the new working pattern really quickly, it's early days Smile

also (hah hah this is a bit patronising but please take in the spirit in which it is said) do some really fabbola stuff on the weekends to get lots of fun experiences as a family (not easy when paperwork can get a bit onerous I know)

They are 8 and 5, the thing is that I didnt especially need to work on fridays, I just liked the children and they are great to look after. I just wish sometimes, I could have them wednesday and thursday instead of thursday and friday just to keep the peace with the ds.

so the children are at school for the vast majority of a Friday, not a huge impact on them

stick to your guns then, the children are old enough to understand the link between you working and family income

chin up and soldier on, yes?

and it's testament to you that the new children have settled in so well, this is brilliant, jolly well done

but they are at school all day friday anyway and are old enough (as i have done with mine) to say with the extra money on a friday we can pay for xx

mine was school dinners (as my boys liked school dinners) and the cinema on a sunday (kids club)

Can you arrange a club or something for your Ds on friday, that he might see as a treat? And so he's not over irritated at 'intruders' into his personal time.

yay !

are you new to MN? we say what we see here; kind of tough love

welcome Smile

I'm new yes, mostly a lurker. They just like chillaxing at home and have their mum to themselves, I'm sure I'll manage to have a fixed day off soon.
