Get her parents to keep her nails really short for a start. Other than that, practically speaking I'd say the same as for biters or hitters - supervise very closely, and make sure she is intercepted/restrained before she has the chance to do any real damage. Then work on modifying her behaviour - clear boundaries, consistency, consequences etc... Hopefully she will soon tire of her new trick.

Good luck!

Doh! - forgot we mustn't label! Scratch biters and hitters and substitute " little angels who occasionally experiment with biting or thumping their companions".

the trouble is that parents of the other children quite rightly get a bit cross if this behaviour continues and their kid is constantly hurt..

as cm i back every one of minderjinx ideas and make dam sure that the parents are on board and take this very seriously as well so that they discipline at home..

list all incidents and make sure they know...

as its unprovoked as well this makes it very hard for you to intercept.. unlike it being the result of a tantrum or temper...

sure a phase though but difficult for you..
