No but you can put a stage 2 car seat in a lap belt if it's the right fit, maxi cosi good for this!

BradfordMum · 28/03/2011 11:45

You must NEVER USE A LAP BELT AND BOOSTER.

Booh · 28/03/2011 11:57

Its not recommended to use a lap belt at all with any type of car seat (guess who has just been on a car seat safety talk this weekend!)

LoveMyGirls · 28/03/2011 12:36

Booh - so what do they recommend you do then? Is one seat in my car pretty much useless then? If I need to fit in 3 children in 5 point harness seats and 3 needing high back/ boosters?

Thanks LT will look into that.

Yes they advised us to never use it with children with or without car seats. And only use it for adults if you have no other option.

I had two lap belts converted to proper seat belts in my classic m g and it was only £150

looneytune · 28/03/2011 14:14

Well that's funny as it was loads on here who said about maxi cosi's and lap belts being ok and I'm sure someone had been advised by Mothercare or somewhere? Definitely not boosters, as for not lap belt at all, I'm glad I've got my new car and don't have lap belts any more!! I must say though, the car seat on my lap belt was the absolute tightest fit of them all.

looneytune · 28/03/2011 14:15

Booh, where did you have the talk? I wonder if there is something local to me :)

LoveMyGirls · 28/03/2011 14:17

My car isn't suitable to have the lap belt converted apparently Sad

this says it's fine, so do you think I can do that?

Yes, that one's fine with a lap belt.
I actually clicked on this thread to say find a car seat that you can use with a lap belt, then you can use the booster with one of the three point seatbelts.

arfanarf · 28/03/2011 18:27

If there are car seats that say they are able to be used with lap belts how can somebody say they are not to be? They must have been tested.
The whole point of boosters is to lift the child so that the seat belt fits properly across the shoulder, so I can see why they are not to be used with a lap belt, but in a seat the harness does the job, the lap belt just holds the seat in.
I would be interested to find out why they say not to use a seat with one.

mrsthomsontobe · 28/03/2011 20:28

i have used a lap belt with the britax seats mentioned above and it worked fine. held seat firmly in place

movingsoon · 29/03/2011 19:14

I think as more and more cars have three three point seat belt the seat manufacturer don't bother getting their new seats tested to see if the are ok with a lap belt. My issofix seat is only two points in some cars. It does use a tether in others. As long as a seat says it ok in the instructions and it in correctly with no buckle crunch its fine.
Seat I found were ok on lap belt
eclipse
prince
graco NAUTILUS when used for group 1
some of these rear facing seats. the two way elite you can use ff to18kg on lap-belt
Going for the two way elite would mean you also had a seat with a harness for a tall light child as it can go beyond 18kg on a three point

graco baby seat bases also go in on a lap belt
