Should all CM's have an accident book?

DS1 is with a lovely CM before and after school 3 days a week.

Today on the way home from the park he was running and had a really nasty fall - she was telling him to slow down, he wasn't listening (as usual when he's running).

He's got nasty grazes on his hip, arm and face on one side.

She cleaned him up, and put plasters on the bits that we bleeding badly.

When I picked him up he was being very brave, not wanting to show me at all so I brought him home as usual.

It was only once he was in bed that I wondered should she have an accident book that I should have signed?

DS2 nis in nursery and I have to sign their accident book most weeks for random knocks and bumps!

yes. she may have just forgotten to get you to sign it. But childminders have sheets where they write which part of the body was hurt, and explaining briefly what happened.
Did she mention it to you though, or just ignore the plasters?

Oh no, she mentioned it to me and was really apologetic.

I don't blame her one bit, and am surpised that I didn't think to ask at the time about signing a sheet.

I'll ask her next week.

anyone who is ofsted registered needs to have an accident book (i think)

poor ds, hope he is ok :)

Depending on how busy I am, I don't always get the chance to fill it in immediately - especially if it happens just before hometime - but I always tell parents and then get them to sign it the next day.

tbh if I really really filled out the accident book for every fall, trip or graze I wouldnt be doing anything else and probably social servivces would get involved!!

I honestly now only fill in for 'nasty' falls with a bruise or cut .. know thats a bit naughty but honestly its a bit over the top otherwise..

HMTheQueen · 27/03/2011 20:54

thebody - that's the deal I made with my CM. If it's nasty and is visible (bruise/bump/blood) then she completes it. If not, she usually just mentions it. Like you, she'd spend her entire time filling it out for every bump if she didn't!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/03/2011 20:56

tho body quite understandable - dc was always falling over/bumping heads/grazing knees etc at nursery - eventually he had his own accident book as every week, sometimes twice a week i would sign it when i collected him

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 27/03/2011 21:02

Thanks all.

I'll ask her next time ds1 goes.
