OFSTED- certificate of good conduct

We're in the process of registering our nanny with OFSTED and, to get things done quickly, intend to sort out the certificate of good conduct (needed for the CRB check because the nanny has lived abroad for a good chunk of the last five years) before OFSTED actually ask for it.

Has anybody done this before? Does it need to be legalised and apostilled? Does the translation need to be certified? If so, can I (as her employer) certify it? I am qualified to certify documents because of my profession, but clearly also have an interest in our nanny obtaining registration...

Don't know but you may find info on the CRB website, as it's to do with them not Ofsted.
Good idea to try to get it sorted out now rather than later, as it could hold things up.

CRB Overseas FAQ

"Either you or your employee should obtain a certified translation. A translation can be obtained by using the services of a translation company or the Embassy of the country concerned may be able to supply a translation. The Embassy should also be able to confirm the validity of the document."

Can't find anything else, so not sure it is of much help.

As her employer I expect you should not certify it but the CRB are not going to know if you do, as they won't know you are the employer.

When my assistant had to have a police check from her own country for her CRB to be completed here it came back in German.

I did German A level and could understand it so told Ofsted that I had verified it myself and that it was clear. They didn't insist on me having it professionally translated.

I don't think my last casier judiciare was even requested by the CRB!

Thank you- all very useful. I think if I do certify the translation I will make sure that my position is clear...
