Sick leave or holiday?

If my nanny has to go to a hospital appointment, does that count as sick leave or would it be holiday/time to make up? I think my own employer would make me either make up the time or take holiday but I want to check what would be "normal" in the childcare context. I know there is usually no choice about timings for NHS consultants so we all have to just live with the time and date she is given. There will probably be a series of appointments.

Any views would be much appreciated.

Assuming this is not related to a pregnancy, you do not have to pay her but most nanny employers I know would pay her as normal, all things being equal.

My employer - non nanny - would pay me for hosptial appointments - would be expected to come back to work as soon as possible ect of course - for GP/dentist that would be in own time

agree most nanny employers wouldnt deduct wages OR expect time to be made up / count it as one of the very very few days holiday that nannies are allowed to choose for themselves.

Id think of it more along the lines of give and take... are you ever late, or need to leave a bit early? Do you know for sure that you NEVER will be late (get stuck in traffic / have a flat tyre)
It would be worth just letting her go, and then if you need a bit of flexability too, then there is give and take and everyone is happy.

If you want to work to the hour every week, then expect her to do the same and charge everytime you are so much as a minute late.

I wonder if she would be able to take your children along? depending on what / when it is. She just might be able to, or on the other hand it might not be possible depending on what it is. Perhaps ask and see what she days.
